2010!

24 hours before the new year, i didn't understand what the big deal was. great, another night of air polluting fireworks and crowds of people dying to drink in the new year. in fact, when the ball dropped and 2010 officially came, i was on the sofa rolling my eyes at the neighbors who were cheering and singing. i know, i'm so boring, i may as well be fifty. it didn't come until january 1 at 2:00pm that it finally dawned on me that this new decade is the decade of most change for me.

2000-2009: consciousness. these were the years that i first began to think independently, after all the last decade encompassed my childhood, teenage years and adulthood. if i were to see a montage of the 90s, i wouldn't remember half, if not more, of the events. the 2000s though, really symbolize my growth. seeing a video about the last decade doesn't just bring a sense of nostalgia but also a slight feeling of surprise because i understand each event and can even recollect what i was doing when some of those events took place. those images or videos aren't foreign but are moments in time that i consciously lived through and experienced. so, i'm sad to see the 2000s go; i'll remember it not just by 9/11, britney spears, ipod/iphone, war on terrorism, leggings, but also by my elementary, high school, and early college memories.

2010-2020: ages 21-31 (that is, if the world doesn't end in 2012). as richard so kindly reminded me, this is the decade we all grow old. marriage, graduate school, careers, children are not distant futures but will soon be the here and now! i can't imagine what life may bring me in 2020 and i don't know if i'm ready to think that far ahead. i just hope this new decade will be as fulfilling and rewarding as the last.

resolutions for the 2010:
(am i really, still going to set myself up for failure with these damned-from-the-start resolutions?)
-stay focused
-live less wastefully
-make better, more responsible decisions
-be less angry at the world
i'm keeping them vague on purpose. my resolutions are almost idiot proof (and because they're idiot-proof, don't screw up this year!!!)!

btw: i know blogs generally have pictures. for the two readers i have, i'm working on uploading pictures so that it's not all read and no look.
