Finals Week

i hate studying. i wish professors would have pop quizzes instead of finals, that way you either know it or you don't. why give glory to those who can cram and punish those who clam up. i fall in the latter category. i know the material and i mostly do the work but i never fail to disappoint on the test. if the pop quiz system was in place then it would give us all incentive to actually go to class and do the work assigned by the assigned dates. if i ever become a professor, i promise to not give out final exams. take home finals, maybe, but never ever final exams. ugh.

winter break will soon be upon us. i'm definitely feeling the winter atmosphere already. hot cocoa and large fleece blankets are now my companions as i sit and read or watch tv, my feet are aching for cozy slippers, and snow too in san francisco! okay, so maybe it wasn't snow but hail. at least it looked like snow from afar...
the one thing, though, i despise about winter is the christmas lights. it pains me to see a house illuminated with decorative lights. i dont think, "wow, what an amazingly dedicated household who wants the public to enjoy with them the christmas spirit". no, i think, "god, what a prick! global warming is upon us and you decide to waste electricity on decorative lights?". it is pretty and festive, i just wish there were better, more resourceful ways to celebrate.

well i've got to get back to reading "the devil's highway" by luis alberto urrera. it's not a bad book, albeit not great either.
